University City is a primarily suburban community in San Diego. It’s located in the northwestern region of the city and is in close proximity to UCSD. The area consists of many canyons and mesas, making for beautiful landscape views. One of the most notable is Rose Canyon, which is an Open Space Park. Rose Canyon is filled with habitats specific to Sothern California and has a beautiful natural creek. The San Clemente Canyon is also a prominent landmark. The canyon, open year round, features a six-mile route trail for mountain biking and running. The plethora of wildlife, hiking trails, and birding is ideal for nature lovers.

 

Neighborhoods located around University City include Clairemont to the south, La  Jolla to the west, Miramar to the east, and Mira Mesa and Sorrento Valley to the north. You can find apartment complexes, condominiums, retirement communities, and shopping centers. The residents of University City enjoy a safe environment with lots of local amenities. The UTC destination mall in particular has many options for fine dining, upscale shops, and entertainment. Two major hospitals are also located within the confines of University City.

 

Place like the Standley Recreation Center and Park, the La Jolla Colony Park are great for day outings. The Doyle Recreation Center and Park has an off-leash dog park, which is ideal for pet owners. The nine-hole University City Golf Course is a great place for friends to get together and practice their short game.

 

There are several special events that happen near University City each year. The Annual La Jolla Festival of the Arts and Food Faire each summer provides gourmet cuisine, renowned artists, and wonderful musical entertainment. In the fall the MCAS Miramar Air Show features the best military and civilian pilots in the world. Additionally, the university itself has a constant stream of happenings, guests, lectures, and more. 

 

University City has five public schools and is noted for its educational programs. There are also several local libraries. University City is in close vicinity to many local beaches. The weather is steadily sunny and warm. Enjoy strolls along the sand, surf, and lovely ocean views year round. Easy access to the I-5 and the I-805 makes it convenient for residents to travel to downtown San Diego as well as San Diego’s most popular attractions, such as the San Diego Zoo and the beautiful Balboa Park.
