Del Mar

Surf, Turf, and a Plush Seaside Community

When Colonel Jacob Taylor bought over 300 acres of land back in 1885, he envisioned a seaside community that would be the playground of the rich and famous. True enough, his dream came to life. Today however, the bungalows that lined the beach have developed into plush mansions making up Del Mar luxury real estate.

Custom homes coupled with unforgettable scenery is what appeals to many buyers in the market for homes for sale in Del Mar. The city where the turf meets the surf is well-known for its fair and racing season.

When summer rolls in, tens of thousands gather for the San Diego County Fair which was formerly called the Del Mar Fair. The Del Mar Fairgrounds fill to the brim with people out to enjoy the fair. Live performances, food, exhibits, and rides abound during the festivities. Once the fair is over, the races begin. Thoroughbred horses which have been training and have received the best grooming all year are met by fans in the race track. On opening day, it’s hats off to those who don hats of all sizes and fashion – some utterly out of this world.

The rest of the year, one finds Del Mar to be a calm haven. Even the whales think so as they gracefully swim in the waters when they migrate. When you’re done whale watching, you can shop in peace at the Del Mar Plaza on the corner of Camino Del Mar and 15th Street which has a number of shops and dining options.

Being a mere 18 miles north of downtown San Diego, residents of the luxury homes here are in a city of their own with an easy lifestyle while not being too far removed from their businesses and workplace.
